Zero Emission Ferries Australia 2026

Zinus is in Sydney a second day, this time on the vessel side: what it takes to charge a ferry on a working timetable rather than in a pilot.

Zero emission ferries live or die on turnaround time. A crossing that allows eight minutes at the quay does not care how clean the propulsion is if the connection takes twelve. Power transfer, cable handling and the interface between vessel and berth are what decide whether a route can be electrified at all, and they are decided long before the first crossing.

Geir Arne Bjørkelund speaks here, the day after Port Electrification Australia. Two events, one trip, the same problem from two directions: the port side on the 22nd, the vessel side on the 23rd.

He is in Sydney both days.
