Australian ports electrify against a different backdrop to Europe. Distances are longer, grid connections are harder won, and the vessel mix leans towards bulk, RoRo and ferries rather than cruise. The engineering questions are the same ones asked in Rotterdam or Portsmouth, but the answers rarely transfer unchanged.
Geir Arne speaks on what separates an electrification plan from a working connection at the berth: power transfer, cable handling, and the interface between a vessel and a quay that was never designed for one.
He is in Sydney for two days. Zero Emission Ferries Australia follows on the 23rd, the same conversation from the vessel side.
