In 2019, Zinus AS launched ready-made solutions for automatic and dry charging of vessels ranging from small service vessels to fast ferries and car ferries. Since then, the innovative solutions have been a door opener for dialogue with potential customers around the world.

Significant contract

One of them is Norled, one of Norway’s largest ferry and express boat operators, which placed an order for the delivery of Zinus’ charging solutions to seven ferry crossing. The total scope includes 38 vessel units and 16 onshore charging stations. The plug solution is guaranteed for 50,000 connections and up to 7.5 MW charging capacity.

On ferry crossings served by Zinus’ charging solutions, the duration of each crossing can be as little as 10 minutes – with less than 10 minutes for recharging in between. Such extremely tight schedules require highly effective, precise, and reliable charging systems to maintain regularity.

“Both our charging and shore power solutions are based on the idea that simplest often is best. Today we are the only supplier on the market that can guarantee dry connection and charging regardless of weather and wind in Arctic conditions. The principle is patent pending,” Finn Ove Langeland, Managing Director of Zinus, explains.

Developed and produced in Norway

Zinus’ telescopic shore power system and the telescopic charging solutions differs from typical industrial constructions found in harbour areas and are designed to fit into the public environment. Both have minimal footprints require minimal intervention in existing quay facilities. To blend in even more, Zinus offers location-adapted colouring and material use. The designers have even considered secondary functions, such as built-in lighting for the quay area. The solution is also among the most affordable on the market.

“All our products are designed, developed and produced in Norway. The interest is great, both domestic and abroad, and we are recruiting to handle the demand,” Langeland says.

Solid foundation

Zinus originated as part of LOS Gruppen, an industrial group with extensive development, design, and installation expertise. LOS Elektro is an electrical installer for industry, infrastructure, offshore, maritime sector, commercial buildings, and private housing. LOS Marine operates within ship services and LOS Cable Solutions delivers high-voltage infrastructure.

“Backed by this competent environment we can take on complete deliveries both on board vessels and on land,” says Langeland.
