In 2021, Zinus delivered its autonomous charging connection to Molslinjen’s ferry route between Esbjerg and the island of Fanø, thereby contributing to more climate- and environmentally friendly crossings. Now Molslinjen, which is Denmark’s largest ferry company, will electrify another two connections. Alslinjen, between Bøjden and Fynshav, and Samsølinjen, connecting Ballen and Kalundborg, are next in line. And once again, the ferry company has chosen Zinus as supplier of the charging connections which enable battery charging while ferries are docked.
“A vote of confidence”
For the two crossings, Molslinjen has ordered two new all-electric zero-emission ferries, which will be delivered from Cemre Shipyard in Turkey in 2024. To the vessel that will service Samsølinjen, Zinus will deliver two charging towers that will be placed on the quay at each end of the connection, as well as two charging connections that will be installed on board. To Alslinjen, the Zinus delivery consists of one charging tower and one charging connection of the same type.
“It is always great to start a new year with a new contract, and it is extra gratifying that the first order of the year comes from Molslinjen – which already has our equipment in operation. We see returning customers as a great vote of confidence and a recognition of the functionality, design, and reliability of our solution,” says Tore Martin Svanheld, VP Sales at Zinus.
First with a high-power charging solution
The 117-meter-long electric ferries will have a capacity of 600 passengers and 188 cars and are prepared for autonomous sailing between ports – with automatic docking and charging at the quay. The battery systems of 3.1 MWh and 3.8 MWh respectively will be fully charged in 20-25 minutes.
“As increasingly larger ships are electrified, the battery packs on board are also growing. This development requires increased charging power, which is reflected in our new delivery to Molslinjen. This delivery will thus be our first autonomous charging connection that is designed for such high charging power – another milestone in the company’s history,” states Ronny Olson, Sales Director at Zinus.
